Whole Foods Market | Sunnyvale, CA
Almost 10 years in the making, is part of a multi-use building and a master plan to re-energize downtown Sunnyvale. The Sunnyvale store is Certified LEED Gold and be the first certified WELL grocery store globally. Outside of the sustainability piece, the store's design embraces a Silicon Valley tech vibe as the town of Sunnyvale called itself the “Heart of Silicon Valley.” Much of the interior environment was inspired by the patterns that form on computer chips, the beauty in complexity and repetition, and shapes that become textural and spatial. The store features a wood-clad “bat wing” that draws the customer to the far back corner where black was used to accentuate the beautiful meat and seafood offerings. The store also offers a full-service restaurant and bar with custom seating, tubular light chandeliers, and sustainable materials throughout.
